When buying an electric mattress pad read carefully to make sure you get what you are looking for. If you are shopping for Therapedic electric mattress pads don’t get tricked by similarly named companies or products. Electric mattress pads allow you to keep your house cooler during the winter while staying warm as you sleep. This particular electric mattress pad is designed to wick moisture from you as you sleep but keep that same moisture from going into your mattress.
“Therapedic” is a trademark of at least three companies in the bedding business. The first is Therapedic Sleep Products, a maker of mattresses and foundations. Therapedic Sleep Products was founded in 1957 with its first factory in Elizabeth, New Jersey. It jointly markets the Kathy Ireland Home line of mattress products, but it does not make mattress pads. This is not the manufacturer of Therapedic electric mattress pads.
The second Therapedic is a brand name used by Sunbeam Corp. for one of its lines of electric blankets. We seem to be getting warmer, but a blanket is not a mattress pad. Sunbeam does not have a Therapedic electric mattress pad, just Sunbeam electric blankets.
We were able to find one Therapedic Electric Mattress Pad, at Bed Bath & Beyond’s Web site. It comes in all mattress sizes and fits mattress depths up to 19 inches. Prices range from $80 to $140 depending on mattress size.
Therapedic electric mattress pads are 50 percent cotton and 50 percent polyester on top, with a 100 percent polyester bottom. This is a good combination for those who want a mattress pad that can wick moisture away from the body, providing drier and cooler sleep. The polyester bottom will act as a moisture barrier to retard moisture passage into the mattress.
Therapedic electric mattress pads come with all the bells and whistles one expects in a top of the line electric mattress pad. There are 20 heat level settings, compared to the ten that is usually found. The patented ThermoFine warming system monitors the temperature and adjusts heating throughout the night. Therapedic electric mattress pads have a preheat feature that can turn on the heat at a preset time before you go to bed and make the bed warm and cozy from the moment you slip into it. Therapedic electric mattress pads also have a 10-hour auto-shutoff feature, so you won’t waste energy if you forget to turn off the mattress pad.
Therapedic electric mattress pads, like other electric mattress pads, are excellent energy-saving choices. Studies have shown that turning down the temperature in the house at night by 10 percent can save 10-15 percent of winter heating bills. Therapedic electric mattress pads enable you to do this without shivering throughout the night.
Therapedic electric mattress pads are also healthy for you. Their warmth penetrates from underneath the body, rising up to fill the spaces under the covers. They provide even, consistent heat throughout the sleeping space, which translates into a relaxed, restful sleeping posture and sleep uninterrupted by waking to cover a cold spot on the body.
Therapedic electric mattress pads can be cleaned in a washer and dried in a dryer, but you have to be careful. Use the delicate wash cycle and a gentle detergent, then dry the electric heated mattress pad on the lowest heat setting, or no heat at all. You must be careful not to crimp or melt the wires inside of the electric heated mattress pad.
Therapedic electric mattress pads may be hard to find, but they are a product worth looking for and definitely worth your consideration to provide a restful night of sleep with the added bonus of reducing your electric consumption.
